Structural Analysis of chassis

Selecting an appropriate material is more challenging for any design. In this project, three different types of materials are chosen, and one is selected among them. This section will provide a detailed insight into the material selection.

To select the material the following criteria is adapted.

  1. Yield strength
  2. Bending strength
  3. Weight to length ratio

The following are the materials and their properties

The below picture represents the CAD model of chassis, a force of 2.2g is used as the maximum impact force and the calculated force turned out to be of 3433N.

Chassis

To validate the material and the chassis we performed 4 different structural analysis using Ansys solver.

  1. Front impact
  2. Side impact
  3. Roll over impact

The following figure shows one such analysis (front impact). From the analysis, AISI 4130 is found to best compared to AISI 1018, AISI 1020 in terms of yield strength, weight, and machinability.
